Hounslow town centre is the largest commercial centre in the Borough and is identified as one of eleven metropolitan town centres across London. However, the recent 2009 London Town Centre Health Check Report indicates that in terms of turnover and overall retail floorspace, Hounslow is the worst performing metropolitan town centre in London. In recognition that the centre is currently underperforming , the Council began the process of creating a new strategy for the future of Hounslow town centre through the production of the visioning strategy in January 2009. ‘A Brighter Future for Hounslow Town Centre’ represents a broad strategy for the area’s regeneration based on a comprehensive engagement process with local residents and stakeholders.
The Council is now seeking to take forward the proposals in the visioning strategy through a detailed masterplan for Hounslow town centre.
Acting for Roger Griffiths I designed and drew up a consortium PQQ bid including other consultancies to necessary cover the multi-disciplinary nature of the masterplanning work.
The team comprised:
- Roger Griffiths Associates – landscape architect and urban design consultancy
- Quidos Ltd – Nationwide provider of residential property services, & property management/ marketing to the commercial sector. Kimm Humphreys the chairman commissioned the Trowbridge Town Centre masterplan and directed its production by Porphyrios Associates (2002). It is one of only 9 Government approved Accreditation Schemes for Energy Assessment.
- Daedalus Environmental Limited – Environmental, mechanical & electrical engineering practice. Delivers an innovative yet realistic approach to services design, translating latest technologies & ideas into implementable schemes. Working across private & public sectors, with clients in both new build developments & regeneration schemes.
- DT Transport Planning Ltd – Highways, traffic & transportation consultancy.
We were not successful in making the shortlist but our aim is to bid for as many similar projects as possible. To date we have bid for four such pieces of work. We have made the shorlist for two: Manor Royal and Aylsebury Urban Extension and are waiting to hear about the fourth.
