Its now just over a year since I launched this website and things have really come on apace. After a few months as a sole trader I set up a company – Philip Kassanis Limited – but use the trading name Philip Kassanis Architect & Urban Designer.
At around the same time I set up a company with Steve Thomas, known as Kassanis+Thomas, in response to an emerging and continuing demand for our combined input into quite sizeable projects in the UK, Bulgaria, Russia and the Ukraine. For some of these the result of our input was that the projects were found to be unfeasible. Others are on a track that will see them materialise over a period of years, and for three of them there is a strong possiblity of an instruction in the late-summer/ early autumn this year.
The main focus of my own work has been to push forward the research programme and its spin-off, MasterplanningNow, while undertaking a few small commissions and freelance work. I have been refining the initial thoughts on the content of the research and basic concepts of the spin-off initiative. The ground has been gradually prepared by establishing contact with key people, which is an on-going process. I have re-callibrated the overall strategy and this is currently being worked up into a business plan.
